‘Hearing their warm, wonderfully refined sound, impeccable intonation and punctilious attention to detail, it’s easy to understand why they have made such an impression.’ The Guardian
The Festival’s Artistic Director, Anthony Friend, is a clarinettist praised for his ‘liquid tone’ and his performances’ ‘vision and intensity’ (The Observer). He joins the French string quartet, Quatuor Agate, in Mozart’s sublime late masterpiece, his Clarinet Quintet. Quatuor Agate are the finest French string quartet of their generation, having won prizes at Banff (2022), Steels-Wilsing (2020) and Verbier Festival (2019) as well as the Young Concert Artists Trust (2021) and now appearing regularly at the Wigmore Hall, Phiharmonie de Paris and Verbier Festival and around the world. They perform Korngold’s String Quartet No. 2, written just before the composer moved from Vienna to Hollywood, and conclude with one of Schubert’s best-loved late works, the ‘Rosamunde’ Quartet.
