Rachmaninov Cello Sonata, Op.19
Zuill Bailey and Piers Lane, both co-commissioning partners with WIMF, come together again in Wimbledon for a programme of two full-blooded romantic cello sonatas written by extraordinarily accomplished pianists. The Cello Sonata in G minor, Op 65 was the last of Chopin’s works to be published in his lifetime, and one of only eight works to feature an instrument other than the piano. Rachmaninov’s Cello Sonata was also a last work, his final chamber work, with a terrifyingly difficult piano part that the composer performed at its premiere.
