Schubert: Drei Gesänge des Harfners, D478
Schumann: Liederkreis, Op.39
Schubert: Settings of poems by Mayrhofer

“A prince among tenors”, one of today’s greatest lieder singers, Christoph Prégardien returns with pianist Sholto Kynoch in a programme of song cycles to move the spirit. Schumann’s Leiderkreis captures the essence of the Romantic experience of landscape, an enigmatic weirdness and reflections on love. Schubert’s cycle of three settings of Goethe’s Songs of the Harpist are considered to be the first of his great song cycles. The recital offers two groups of songs that Schubert set to poems of his close friend Johann Mayrhofer.
