Edgar Francis, viola
Jâms Coleman, piano
A rising star of the viola, Edgar Francis was just 22 years old when he won the 2021 Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition. His chamber music collaborators include the Doric String Quartet and the Sitovetsky Trio, and he has appeared as soloist under the baton of conductors such as John Wilson, Edward Gardner and François-Xavier Roth, including multiple appearances at the BBC Proms.
Jâms Coleman is known for his ‘thrilling variety’ and ‘imagination’ at the piano, and for collaborations with musicians such as Sir John Tomlinson, Sir Bryn Terfel and Laura van der Heijden.
Their recital moves from the Romantic soundworlds of Robert and Clara Schumann to the lyricism of Rebecca Clarke’s work based on an old Scottish border melody, I’ll bid my heart be still and the brooding beauty of Frank Bridge’s Cello Sonata.
Programme:
Clara Schumann – Three Romances
Robert Schumann – Märchenbilder
Rebecca Clarke – I’ll bid my heart be still
Frank Bridge – Cello Sonata (arr. viola)
