Sir Willard White
with Brodsky Quartet

Sir Willard White was born in Jamaica and trained at the Jamaican School of Music. On a visit to Jamaica, Evelyn Rothwell, wife of conductor Sir John Barbirolli, heard him sing and suggested that he should study in London.

Sir Willard’s father bought him a one-way ticket to New York, because ‘the flight was cheaper’. In New York he won a scholarship to the Julliard where Maria Callas invited him to sing at her master-class. The rest is history..

By overwhelming demand Sir Willard White returns, this time with the Brodsky Quartet, with songs by Gershwin, Copland, Britten, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer and Sinatra.

'If one has to refer to it as ‘crossover’, then it is of the most creative kind… given with unfailing feeling for the music' Richard Whitehouse
