Festival Finale - Philharmonia Orchestra
Zuill Bailey solo cello

Robin O’Neill conductor

Before looking forward to 12-tone music Webern left this richly romantic and lyrical slow movement – while Beethoven breaks free of classical constraints and makes an heroic leap into the emotional world of the Romantic movement with his Symphony no. 3, the ‘Eroica’.

Firmly in the Romantic tradition, Schumann’s cello concerto is considered, alongside the cello concertos of Dvořák and Elgar, in a group of three great Romantic works for the instrument.
