Musical Opinion

Peter Donohoe

Joint-winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982 Peter Donohoe has built a world-wide career and is acclaimed as one of the foremost pianists of our time, for his musicianship, stylistic versatility and commanding technique.

The programme includes:

• Preludes and Fugues of J S Bach and Dmitri Shostakovich, with the 20th century Russian composer inspired by looking back to the great master of counterpoint of the Baroque

Mozart’s wondrous K310 minor-key, ‘Avant-Garde’ sonata, an important bridge between Bach’s Baroque and Beethoven

Stravinsky’s Serenade in A, the ‘loveliest’ of his piano works

Mussorgsky’s mighty ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’

'...jaw droppingly virtuosi stuff - the sheer finger-memory involved is awesome...'
Birmingham Post

'Donohoe’s performance was monumental, rhythmically charged, beautifully nuanced and utterly compelling' The Scotsman
